- Good control of blood sugar levels can prevent foot problems or help heal open wounds

Keep feet clean, wash and dry thoroughly daily and dry well, particularly between the toes

Always ensure that shoes and slippers fit well

Never walk barefoot especially outside

Cut and file nails every 6-8 weeks

Make sure corns and hard skin is reduced by a foot health professional. Carers are advised not to cut nails themselves but they can use a file for regular nail care

Changes to sensations in the feet and lower limbs need to be reported to the foot health professional who can assess this thoroughly

Attend the annual diabetic review with the GP or Practice Nurse. Foot checks should also take place annually with the foot health professional
