What is athletes foot?
Athletes foot is a rash caused by a fungus that normally affects the skin between the toes or on the bottom of the feet. Symptoms may include dry, red, scaly, flaky skin and itching, soreness and blisters.
How will Franks Footcare treat this?
I will treat the infection with Lamisil, which is proven to be effective. This is available as ‘Lamisil Once’ treatment. You will be required to apply and keep the feet dry for 24 hours, then repeat 2 weeks later. All footwear will need to be sprayed with deodorising spray and follow the aftercare instructions and complete the course of treatment coupled with good foot hygiene tips.
Aftercare and Good Foot Hygiene advice:
- Follow the instructions for Lamisil Once and keep dry for 24 hours
- Repeat 2 weeks later
- Both feet and between toes should be included in your treatment of athletes foot. Do not just treat the area that you can see/is irritated. Just because you may not see or experience a symptom in both feet doesn’t mean the infection isn’t there.
- Do not only treat your feet. I also advise using athlete’s foot and deodorising sprays in your footwear. This can be applied at regular intervals to ensure that the area in which your feet are in are kept as clean and hygienic as possible.
- Dry feet after washing, especially between your toes. We advise using a piece of tissue between the toes as this will not be as abrasive on the skin as a towel and can be instantly disposed of.
- Wear cotton socks and roomy shoes so that your feet can breathe.
- Wear a fresh pair of socks, tights or stockings every day.
- Do not walk barefoot in public showers or locker rooms.
- Do not share towels, socks or shoes with others.
- Wash towels regularly.
- Do not put creams between the toes.
- Do not use talcum powder.
- Use antifungal sprays regularly.
- Regularly check your feet and nails for signs of infections.
